El Subjuntivo

This is a PDF file of a graphic organizer for students who are learning the present subjunctive.  It can be printed front and back to make a tri-fold, or each panel can be cut out and glued to construction paper to make a more sturdy tri-fold.  Alternatively it can be just used as guided notes or a study sheet.

    WEIRDO is the acronym to remember most situations that require the subjunctive (given a change of subject):
    Wishes
    Emotions
    Impersonal expressions
    Recommendations
    Doubt and Denial
    Ojalá

    This, of course, doesn't account for all of the situations (certain conjunctions and unknown/non-exsistent are not addressed in this acronym), but it's a good starting point!

    Hi! I love this idea!! I am curious what the students do in the MANDATOS section...Do they choose a verb and then give the + and - command in each box? Or is this the ¡Que + subjunctive! structure that they are practicing? :) Sorry I'm confused!! Would love to see a picture of that section filled out if you have one!

    JAA, Since the command forms are all the same as the subjunctive (except the affirmative tú, of course), I teach the commands after my kids get a firm grip on the subjunctive. Then it's easy and (relatively) stress free. I just have the kids take a verb and put it in the negative and affirmative commands there at the end of the foldable. However, there is no reason why you couldn't use the indirect command (que + subjunctive) there instead. Either way, I hope it's useful to you and I hope your students find it to be a valuable study aid. <3 --AnneK

    I would caution you that this trifold was meant as a study aide -after- the students had already learned the subjunctive. I don't know how you plan to use it yourself, but I don't think I would use it to introduce the subjunctive. There is a LOT of information there and you don't want to overwhelm your students.
