Kevin, Karla y La Banda

Holy smokes!  This is a cover band that redoes songs from the American pop scene . . . in Spanish.

Now you're thinking that's not such a big deal but, the thing is, this band is actually good!  Their translations, though not word-for-word, are very true to the spirit of the original songs.  They rhyme and they match the original rhythm of the song and, this is the best part, they can sing!  They sing very well, in fact.

Kevin, Karla y La Banda have a website, but I have a hard time navigating around it.  I can't find the songs I'm looking for on their site, but I can find them easily enough on YouTube.

One caveat, and this is only a problem for Spanish teachers, the lyrics are lacking accent marks in most places.  Still, I forgive them for that.  The music is great.

Here are links to two of their songs that my students really enjoy.

Call Me Maybe (Spanish Version)

We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (Spanish Version)

Hasta pronto,

I just found you via Pinterest also...and I'm so glad I did. As the only Spanish teacher at my school I'm always on the lookout for new ideas. The band is hilarious! Have you used them with Spanish 1?

This is so awesome! I also just found you through Pinterest! :) I'm in Spain right now getting my Master's degree, but I cannot WAIT to get back and use some of the resources I have found on your site! Thanks so much for sharing!

Elisa and Colleen, Thanks for stopping by and for the positive comments. I generally play music in the background while students are working. Once in awhile I make a song activity but I don't want to run the risk of taking too much fun out of listening to music in class by overdoing it. Hooray for Pinterest for bring folks by here! It makes me feel connected to my fellow Spanish teachers. :-) --AnneK
